Paul’s Week 5 – ending 07/08/11 – Daddy Day Care (or Parenting 101)

Paul’s Week 5 – ending 07/08/11 – Daddy Day Care (or Parenting 101)

Swim – 1.4k (1 x session)
Bike – 36k ( 1 x spin class, 1 x home spin session)
Run – 19k ( 1 x long run)

Total –  5:40 hours

Monday – Spin Class

dist – 29.0k (spin kays don’t really count as they are technically ‘on the road’ but hey, anything I can get !!)
avg hr – n/a

max hr – n/a

Copped a migraine at 1pm straight after lunch. Thought something was up this morning, vision was a little laboured. Popped a couple of the new nurofen back pain tabs (they are designed to be more quickly absorbed)

Rode the ‘trip’ of my vision going, lasted only 20 odd mins – didn’t get the colourful aura this time, must have been the drugs kicking in. All done and dusted by 2pm, felt pretty washed out but damned if I was going to let that stop my spin session tonight.

Slowly getting even more used to these now – last one was 3 weeks ago, no apparent pattern for when they come on, starting to think it has to be a stress thing maybe ? Anyways, I know what they are now and can deal with them fairly comfortably (even had one during a spin class which I just carried on and was ok !!)

Just find it a little un-comfortable doing my job which is at the moment checking millimetres on a massive offshore oil & gas platform !! – just takes a few more seconds for the figures to register that’s all........ ahh...I’m feeling older and senile more and more each day

Tuesday – Recovery Swim
Easy swim – 1.4k I think ??

Far out – August already....well and truly into the second half of the year, 4 weeks til spring, 16 weeks to December....oh dear – it’s hitting home a bit now...mental note to make sure I hit the home trainer spin sessions planned this week

 Wednesday – Spin Class
Edgars spin class to coincide with a Arena Swim Squad parent meeting earlier in the arvo, plus wet again in the morning
Good solid class, good to mix up instructors – wish I had my Polar to track the spikes

dist – 36k
avg hr – n/a

max hr – n/a

Thursday – Long Run

– swapped out from Sunday as Shell is away in Melbourne this weekend.
Worked from home in the morning for a few hours and then got sorted for a good solid tempo run that PJ had sorted for me

20’ easy, then 1k, 2k, 3k, 4k hard with 1k recovery in between. I have never ran this hard and fast for so long in a very long time. Pretty happy with the efforts – maintained the pace and got into the 3k set and thought there’s no way I can hold on for the 4k !! ....did it and only because I had the boys in the back of my head spurring me on – and the truth of the blog keeps these sessions honest.

Nearly managed to go @rse over on the first 1k effort – clipped the pavement but managed to hold it together, tho’ the back tweaked a bit and I thought it may play up later but it was all ok. Ran out of real estate at the end of the run so had to do a out and back to the beach to make up the 90 mins.

dist – 19k
avg hr – 149
max hr – 165

kids all sorted and primed for 4 days in Daddy Day Care – should be some interesting days ahead !! ha ha !! I feel very sorry for them !! Feeling pretty relaxed about doing the school and sport runs...my listed out timeline will help !! I’m treating this weekend like on of my projects at work !!

Friday – Rest Day

Work from home didn’t amount to much – a mate came and finished off some tiling in the laundry so that interrupted a far chunk of the day. Day pretty much gone by the time school pick up was locked in
Ellie swimming at Top Gun race session at Arena – got two pb’s – super super stuff !!
Subway for dinner and kids happy to do their own thing no movie, got them into bed by 8.30. Day two accomplished – all kids in bed and accounted for !!

Saturday – Home Spin Session

Did it !! – got onto the trainer at 10am after only getting 5 hours sleep (got to bed late, and Bridie tried a Sat morning squad – she’s a champ and did really well. She’s not a morning person so will be interesting if she follows thru on the promise of doing these once netball season has finished)
Managed just under 90 mins of Spinervals Totally Time Trial – even spiked the heart a few times...plenty of sweat too.
One box ticked for the limited training options this weekend which is good and didn’t feel like I was just being rather than doing with a few efforts.
Netball in the arvo and Scott and his crew over for pizza in the evening (he was bach-ing too with Dana away with Shell). Not too late but certainly tired after a few beers listening to U2 whilst the kids watched a movie. Looking forward to a sleep in tomoro

dist – n/a
avg hr – 126 (there you go, not much hard work getting done !)
max hr – 159

 Sunday – Recovery Day
SLEEP IN !!! – man, that was good...got out of bed at 8am...yep read it...8am...have not done that in a bloody long time !!
Took kids bowling – had a great time, back to Scott’s for dinner out of the oven to cap off 4 days of fast food !!! ...hopefully next week diet returns to normal
Kids were great especially as Shell’s has never been away from them and it’s usually me going away for weekends racing. Had a fulfilling weekend and got to see how being a ‘mum’ is certainly a full on working full time job...Respekt !!
